Tribute to Isabel Jean (Devinney) Jones

The Albert County Historical Society extends heartfelt condolences to the Jones family at this sad time of the passing of a beloved mother and grandmother.

Isabel was a lovely lady, so kind and caring, generously helping others and providing support not only to her family, but to others who appreciated her positive encouragement.

Isabel greeted everyone with a warm smile and sincere friendliness.

The Historical Society and Museum were truly blessed over the years to have the commitment of Isabel’s dedicated service as a member of the Quilt Show Committee and faithful volunteer in helping with Museum events. Isabel greatly enjoyed being typist and “book project partner” with her husband, John, and local historian friend, Jim West, as many hours were spent in the writing and compiling historic photos of the published book “Shadows of the Past”, a true legacy project!

Treasured memories of Isabel will forever remain in the hearts of all those who were blessed by her kindness and friendship.

With caring thoughts and prayers from the Albert County Historical Society,

Dawne McLean, President

Isabel Jones

From Published Obituary:

Isabel Jean Jones (nee Devinney) – 95, Truro, formerly of Moncton, New Brunswick. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Isabel Jean Jones on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in Truro.

Born in New Westminster, British Columbia, to Frederick and Emma, she was the youngest of three sisters. At age three the family moved to Stoney Creek, New Brunswick where Isabel spent her childhood. In grade seven, she met John Taylor Jones, the love of her life and her best friend. They married at age 21; October 6, 1951, and had three children, Kathy, Daniel and David. Through many relocations due to John’s work with the CNR they always found ways to express and enjoy their shared love of art. They enjoyed watercolour painting and ceramic which evolved into teaching ceramics. They passed this love of art down to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

They had a great love of the outdoors - hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, boating and four wheeling which led them to build a camp at Hart Lake.

At the end of John’s career, Isabel and John made the move back to Moncton.  Isabel was a long-time member of Riverview Art Society, along with her sister, Beth. Isabel’s art always focused on either nature or family. Isabel and John were both members and dedicated volunteers at Albert County Historical Society & Museum. They did everything from tours, quilt fairs, teas, to organizing special events and were instrumental in the addition on the RB Bennet Commemorative Centre in 2010. Their children and grandchildren would join them in volunteering at the Society and Museum events, and it became a shared family endeavor. One of their proudest contributions was the book "Shadows of the Past" they researched and wrote with their friend, Jim West. Isabel was the typist and kept everything on track to see the book to completion.

Isabel's greatest joy was her family. She was a warm and generous host, sharing great food and hospitality with everyone she knew. She maintained a lifelong connection with her cousins and friends, staying close through all of life’s events, big and small.

Isabel is survived by daughter, Kathy McCarthy (Randy); son, David Jones (Krista Stott-Jones); grandchildren, Dustin McCarthy (Allison), Tara McCarthy (James Tremere), Madalin Jones (Tyler Parkman), Mathias Jones; great grandchildren, Brielle, Taiten, Stella, Maverick; sister, Margaret Steel. She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Emma Devinney; sister, Beth MacBeath; and her beloved husband of 71 years, John, who passed on May 31, 2023. Isabel was also predeceased by her son, Daniel John Fredrick Jones in 2020 and his wife Edie in 2019.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Reverend April Hart officiating. Reception will follow. An interment will take place at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens in Moncton at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Albert County Museum or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Tributes, words of comfort and memories may be shared at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com.
