The Albert County Historical Society is saddened by the passing of Janet Wilbur-Morton, a former ACHS Board Director. The Society and Museum were extremely fortunate to have Janet serve as a dedicated volunteer and extend heartfelt condolences to the Wilbur family.
Janet was a remarkable lady who leaves a legacy of a life “well lived”. She will be dearly missed, but always remembered for her loving kindness and beautiful smile.

Janet Elaine Wilbur- Morton
1935 -2026
Janet Elaine Wilbur-Morton, 90, of Memramcook, passed away peacefully on February 11th, 2026, just as she would have wished — resting in her favorite Lazyboy chair, watching a movie with her loving family gathered close by. Only moments before, she had been quietly watching the deer outside her window and the birds at her feeders, simple joys that always filled her heart. It was a gentle and fitting goodbye for a woman who cherished life’s everyday blessings. Janet was ready whenever the good Lord chose to call her home.
Born in Edgett’s Landing on August 7th, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Steeves) Rogers.
Above all else, Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest pride and her deepest joy. She treasured her life on the farm in Hopewell Cape with her beloved husband, Dick, building a home filled with warmth, faith, and laughter.
Janet found happiness in the simple and meaningful things — tending her gardens, baking for those she loved, and quilting with careful hands. She was well known for her homemade preserves, picking her own berries for jam, and for the sauerkraut she so generously shared. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, and her home was one where anyone could walk through the door and instantly feel welcome.
She had a special place in her heart for children. Janet lovingly babysat many little ones in the community over the years, always ready with a kind word, a warm hug, or a homemade treat. Her faith was central to her life. As a faithful member of Surrey Valley Baptist Church, she was deeply involved in the Awana program and found great joy in helping lead children to know and love the Lord. She was also a lifetime member of the Edgett’s Landing Women’s Institute and the Historical Society.
Janet carried a beautiful smile wherever she went. She enjoyed the simple life and made the most of every day. As long as she was surrounded by family and friends, she was content. Her children and grandchildren were truly her world, and she was always there for them — steady, loving, and supportive. When her great-grandchildren arrived, her heart grew even fuller.
She knew many people and made it a point to greet everyone she met. She was deeply touched and overjoyed by the wonderful turnout at her 90th birthday celebration, treasuring the love shown to her that day.
Janet leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, faith, and laughter. She would want us to remember the good times, the shared meals, the stories, and the smiles — and to find comfort in knowing she was ready to meet her Lord and Saviour.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter Kathy Belliveau (Roger) of Memramcook and her son Donald Wilbur (Julie) of Edgett’s Landing; son-in-law, Dana Cross of Waterside; her treasured grandchildren, Matthew (Jenny), Luke (Kathryn), and Janet (Jesse); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Skyler, Orion, Bomi, Sage, Ember, Tessa, and Charlotte. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister Peggy Ayer (Chesley) of Edgett’s Landing, as well as uncle Bob; cousins, nieces, nephews, all her extended family members, dear friends, and her church family.
In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husbands, Dick Wilbur, the love of her life, and Arnold Morton, who became a caring companion in her later years; her beloved daughter Joanne Cross; her sister Heather Fownes; her niece Donna; and her precious great-granddaughter Jasmine.
Funeral Service will be at the Surrey Valley Baptist Church on Monday, February 16th, 2026 at 2:00pm with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. There will be a time of visitation from 1:00-2:00pm (an hour prior to the service). Interment will follow at a later date in Mountain View Cemetery, Lower Cape, NB.
For those who wish, donations in Janet’s memory may be made to Mountain View Cemetery, the IWK, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
