Albert County Museum Celebrates "60 Years of History" in 2022!

We look forward to celebrating “60 Years of History” with the public

The Albert County Historical Society is pleased to announce the 60th Anniversary of the Albert County Museum taking place in 2022.  The Museum, located in Hopewell Cape, NB, was opened to the public in 1962 on the site of the historic 1845 “Shiretown” of Albert County, the once-bustling municipality capital.

The Museum’s Anniversary will be an exciting time for celebration in the community!  There will be something for everyone to enjoy during the “60 Years of History” program during the May to October operating season.  Plans are underway to highlight each of the six decades since the opening of the Museum, with a variety of entertaining events, heritage talks, historical drama performances and concerts.

“The Albert County Museum came into existence because a group of Albert County citizens knew the importance of preserving the history and artefacts of past generations”, expressed Dawne McLean, President of the Albert County Historical Society. “Without the Museum, valuable information of our past would have been erased....never to be appreciated by future generations.”

Throughout 2022, the amazing history of the area will be shared with in-person events and through digital means including the ACM website, social media and special videos.  A kick-off event will take place during the Victoria Day Weekend season opening of the Museum, 60 years after the Official Grand Opening on May 19, 1962, where the first guests arrived and signed the guest book which remains in our collection.

The program of activities and events in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Museum will be taking place in the Court House, Community Hall, County Gaol (jail), Exhibition Hall, and on the 6 acres of landscaped grounds.  Programming will be for history lovers of all ages and where possible will be free of charge, available at a nominal fee, or included with paid admission to the Museum.

New exhibits will feature a Lieutenant Governor Abner Reid McClelan Exhibit, and a refurbished Prime Minister RB Bennett Exhibit.  An educational Heritage Activity Booklet will be created to engage children and elementary students in the 60th Anniversary of the Museum with fun heritage facts and activities, stories, pictures to colour and riddles to solve!  These will be available free of charge or by donation to families with young children and students visiting during the season.

The Albert County Museum is owned and operated by the Albert County Historical Society Inc., a federally recognized non-profit charitable organization.  We appreciate the ongoing support from community members, volunteers and donors.  ACHS is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick, with community support from Friends of Fundy (Fundy Guild), Albert County Tourism Association, AC Chamber of Commerce and Connecting Albert County.  Learn more by calling 506-734-2003, visit our website: www.albertcountymuseum.com , or email us at: info@albertcountymuseum.com
