The mess kit seen here is a common example of those manufactured in the United States during World War I. In the field and in combat situations, soldiers were given packages of food rations.

A powder horn was a container for gunpowder, and was generally created from cow, ox, or buffalo horn. This horn was used to carry gunpowder for flintlock and percussion cap muskets and rifles by soldiers and hunters in New Brunswick during the 18th and 19th century.

The first patent for a hand-cranked ice cream freezer was by Nancy M. Johnson in 1843. The machine had a moveable crank with a centre paddle that churned the mixture, similar to the one seen here. This method, however, required a lot of patience and muscle to use, as well as a lot of ice and rock salt.

While he is now remembered for the circumstances of his years in office, Bennett was key in the development of several important Canadian organizations today, such as the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Corporation and the Bank of Canada. Though they were eventually disbanded, this plate was given to Bennett in 1939 by one such of these projects, The Bennett Young Canada Club.

This embossed copper plaque in a wooden frame commemorates 60 years of Canadian confederation in 1927, a relatively unusual time-marking celebration. This is due to the fact that plans by the Canadian government to hold a major event to mark the 50th anniversary of Confederation in 1917 were overshadowed by the First World War.

This Mi'Kmaq Quill Box, is made using porcupine quills, which are dyed and arranged in a pattern across the lid and exterior of the box. The Mi'kmaq have been making birch and quill baskets for centuries. Fragments found at a New Brunswick archeological site date back as far as 2500 years.

This tread is designed to be powered by a dog and would have been used mainly for pumping water and churning butter. It was formerly the property of Ezra O. Barbour, and was used from about 1890 to 1910, before being given to the Northrup boys in 1933.

This iconic jacket and walking stick belonged to Dr. Art Dobson, whose name you may recognize as the founder of the Dobson Trail. In late 1959, Dr. Dobson started scouting for a viable hiking route to Fundy National Park.
