On this day 175 years ago, September 17, 1845 the Act creating Albert County was officially published and declared in the Province. The jail in this undated postcard was only one story in 1845, the second storey was added sometime in the 20th century. A lot has changed since 1845 but one thing is for sure, we are really blessed to live here. Click on the link to see the official act to create the county in 1845.

It would be interesting to know the story behind this photo, as this had to be a rare occurrence. This whale was captured at Alma on April 28, 1901 and measured 73 feet in length, 45 feet in circumference , and the mouth was 18 feet long.

Now a trip back in time to 1908 and a view of Herring Cove Road, which is now a part of Fundy National Park.

Back to school Monday, with this undated photo of the Germantown School. This school is still standing today and is now someones home!

Back to church Sunday, with a postcard from the museum’s collection of the Catholic Church in Riverside, NB. No date on the postcard but it’s probably from around 1910.

Well the Albert County Exhibition was supposed to be full swing today, alas though it was cancelled for safety reasons . Strangely the museum doesn’t have any early photos from the fair so I found one of this beautiful farm from West River.

Wow, this photo is of the same ship as yesterday as she was raising the sail. Taken on the Shepody River in 1925.

Another interesting photo taken in the Shepody river from before World War One. You can just make out the men onboard the ship.

I found some never before scanned photos in the museum collection from the Shepody River from before the First World War. I’ll be sharing them this week.

Happy Labour Day! I was looking for a parade to show today and found this great photo from Vaughn Snider, who has been a major contributor to our photo-a-day. Thanks Vaughn! In this photo titled, “Getting ready for a Parade” in Hillsborough during the Second World War in front of the N.B.Dept. of Transportation Garage on Academy Street. Back to church Sunday, with this postcard of the Methodist Church in Harvey, NB. The postcard states the church burned in 1936, there is no date when the photo was taken but probably circa 1910.
