Another interesting photo taken in the Shepody river from before World War One. You can just make out the men onboard the ship.

I found some never before scanned photos in the museum collection from the Shepody River from before the First World War. I’ll be sharing them this week.

Happy Labour Day! I was looking for a parade to show today and found this great photo from Vaughn Snider, who has been a major contributor to our photo-a-day. Thanks Vaughn! In this photo titled, “Getting ready for a Parade” in Hillsborough during the Second World War in front of the N.B.Dept. of Transportation Garage on Academy Street. Back to church Sunday, with this postcard of the Methodist Church in Harvey, NB. The postcard states the church burned in 1936, there is no date when the photo was taken but probably circa 1910.

Here is a great photo of the early steamship, the “Wilfred C” on the river from about 1910. Does anyone have any interesting stories about her?

Here is a great photo of showing the Jones Quarry about 1900. Large pieces of Gypsum or chunks were broken off the the cliff faces and moved by hand to a loading area. Then dumped into narrow gauge ore cars to be taken to the plaster mill for refining.

Here is an interesting fact, it took 7 cord of wood a day when they were firing the gypsum plant to process the gypsum. Now that’s a pile of wood! This photo days from around 1890.
